There is no rail line to reach Kathmandu till date. However, there’s a train originating from Jainagar, India to Janakpur, Nepal. From Janakpur, it’s a 6 hours’ drive to the city.

You can also reach Kathmandu by bus from India from either Gorakhpur or Varanasi to the Nepalese border at Sunauli. From Sunauli one can take a local bus to Kathmandu. There’s also a newly launched direct bus services from New Delhi, India to Kathmandu. The whole journey takes about 30 hours.
